The Farm Progress Show is the largest outdoor farm show in the nation.  In addition to having nearly 600 exhibitors it offers several field demonstrations, cattle handling demonstrations, and ride ‘n drive opportunities which make it a great learning opportunity. As a result, agents from Douglas, Johnson, and Leavenworth Counties and the Marais des Cygnes Extension District have worked together to plan a trip to the Farm Progress Show in Boone, IA on August 29, 30, and 31. In addition to spending a day at the Farm Progress show the trip will include stops at Couser Cattle Company and Summit Farms. Both are large, diversified operations in central Iowa that feature crop and cattle enterprises and are doing some unique things to stay profitable and grow their operations.

As we put costs together, this 3 day 2 night trip would cost about $350. However, thanks to the support of a $5,000 grant from USDA’s SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education), the cost for producers is only $225. That fee includes a comfortable tour bus, two nights lodging, entry to the farm show, and all but two meals.

Registration is limited to the first 40 people that register, so make sure you don’t miss out. To reserve your spot, make sure to return your registration form and nonrefundable deposit of $125 to the Marais des Cygnes Extension District – Paola Office by July 22nd.
